The historic Champs-Elysées Louis Vuitton boutique stayed open Sunday, violating a court order by French Authorities that it close in an effort to promote “domestic rest”.
Apparently labor laws in France place limitations on which businesses can be open on Sundays. However, it’s possible that retailer can get an exception if the business has “cultural, recreational or sportive” aspects. Louis Vuitton claims there is a cultural aspect to what they do. There is the La Maison Louis Vuitton, the museum at the Champs boutique where you’ll find art exhibits as well as displays on the Louis Vuitton’s history.
WWD reported that at the LV Fashion Show last week Vuitton CEO Yves Carcelle said, “It’ll be open on Sunday,” and then he cited a different order that says they aren’t affected by the decision.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes down…
